In Feeling Sentimental, Nick Garner, artist and co-founder of Das Platforms, presents a video work and a new series of paperback artists books. The exhibition is part of an ongoing interest in a version of art as philosophy concerned with what it is to live, to live with others and to no longer live.

With a particular leaning towards Romanticism, Feeling Sentimental acts in some way as a coda to Acid/Gothic (Galerie pompom 20 Aug–14 Sep 2014) that came about from a consideration of Acid (or psychedelia) and Gothic as cultural strategies that have reappeared throughout Western history in response to authoritarian or highly structured theoretical regimes, such as Classicism, Enlightenment or Capitalism.

The work shares similar conditions with the Romantic: an observance of nature, its power and transitoriness; and the instability of existence, and “a nervous preoccupation with perpetually changing inner states of consciousness” (Isaiah Berlin).
