NOT COMING ANDERSSON is a body of work that centres not only on my (seemingly never-ending) preoccupation with representation in painting and sculpture, but also encapsulates my recent, low point of working life when I was ready to leave everything behind, grow a beard and live on a deserted mountain with a goat named Mamma Andersson.
Apart from referencing Andersson, a Swedish painter; and recognising my working self in Paul McCarthy’s petulant painter, the presented works are largely self-referential and narrate the moments prior and after my decision to stay and never re-unite with Andersson the goat.
Born in Yugoslavia. Lives and works in Sydney.
Jelena Telecki is interested in representation in painting and sculpture. Installation plays an important part in creating a dialogue between painting and sculpture and is used as a means of articulating her sense of personal and shared narratives, internal and the external. Jelena’s most recent work traces her interest in decision-making and how we experience the choices we make.
Jelena has recently been a finalist in the 2018 John Fries Award (curated by Consuelo Cavaniglia), and has exhibited in Australia, UK and Japan. She has been awarded several scholarships and grants, including the University of Sydney Postgraduate Award 2008-2009; and the Australia Council for the Arts grant for the development of new work, 2010. In 2014, her work was exhibited in NEW14 (curated by Kyla McFarlane), Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne.
