Curators' Program

Firstdraft invites early-career curators to propose an exhibition to be staged across two galleries.

Firstdraft encourages curators to work with emerging artists for their exhibitions, however also accepts proposals that bring emerging artist’s work into conversation with more established peers.

Successful applicants receive

> $1000 for artist fees per exhibition

> $1500 curators fee per exhibition

> A fully subsidised four-week exhibition across two gallery spaces

> The opportunity to develop a public program

> Access to Firsdraft’s equipment and resources

> Promotion through Firstdraft’s digital channels

> Opening night event

> Curator and artist talk evening

> Gallery minding

Please submit 1 merged pdf with

> Proposal detailing your exhibition title, concept and artists (max 1 A4 page)

> Curators CV (max 1 A4 page)

> Up to 10 labelled images per application 

> Up to 1 multimedia work per artist (please provide link and password at end of proposal)

Further program details

> Collaborative applications from multiple curators/curatorial collectives are welcome, however this program cannot accommodate additional financial allowances.

> Applicants based in regional NSW or interstate are also eligible for the NSW Regional Artist Fund (supported by Create NSW) and the National Travel Fund (supported by the Australia Council for the Arts). These initiatives provide additional support for travel, accommodation and artwork freight, allowing artist to participate in a national dialogue and present work outside of their immediate communitites.

The maximum amounts applicants are eligible for are below:

ACT $800
NT and Far North Queensland $1050
Queensland $800
South Australia $850
Tasmania $850
Victoria $800
Western Australia $1150

As capped funds, the Regional NSW and National Travel Fund may not reach to support all eligible projects, and available funding depends on the number of applicants supported each round.
