The Writers’ Program seeks to foster an expanded arts writing practice. Successful applicants produce an experimental text to be launched by Firstdraft and published through Firstdraft’s website and Runway Australian Experimental Arts: Conversation Platform. The text can take any number of forms – print, digital, performed; critical or otherwise; responsive to exhibitions or independent.
Successful applicants receive
> A writers fee of $1000.
> The option of a fully subsidised non-residential studio space for one month.
> Assistance in identifying and facilitating introductions with mentors and peers.
> Digital promotion through the Firstdraft website, electronic newsletters and social media platforms.
> Depending on desired project outcome:
> Presentation outcomes published through Firstdraft’s online platform and/or
> a launch event in Firstdraft public programs.
> A published outcome on Runways ‘Conversation Platform’.
Submissions must include
> Proposal (max. 1 A4 page, approx. 500 words) detailing your proposed project.
> CV (max. 1 A4 page) detailing relevant experience.
> A sample of your writing of up to 1500 words OR up to 3 video/multimedia works (that demonstrate an engagement with text) uploaded to a third party sharing site such as YouTube, Vimeo or Soundcloud, with an applicable link provided at the end of your proposal document.
> Please note that the writers’ program does not offer exhibition space in the Firstdraft galleries.
> Writers are required to produce one outcome for presentation, over a six month period.
