Redrafted

Event 08.11.14 11:00am-4:00pm

We invite you to join us for Redrafted, a day of creative and critical conversation around the relationship between art and language.

Saturday, 8 November, 11am - 4pm (refreshments provided).

Join us at Firstdraft as we attempt to crack open the relationship between writing and art – where it is now, where it’s been and where it’s going.

Featuring the words and opinions of: Frances Barrett, Benjamin Forster, Prue Gibson, Nick Garner, Mish Gregor, Dee Jefferson, Astrid Lorange, Maria White and Watts & Gregory.

The day will open with a panel discussion on the state of art writing in contemporary media and artistic practice: the State of the Union. Featuring Prue Gibson (COFA), Nick Garner (Das Platforms) and Dee Jefferson (Time Out Sydney), the open conversation will seek to situate writing about art as it stands now – when it’s good, when it’s great, and when it’s just word salad.

We’ll then cast our eyes back to the 20th Century, a heyday for literary excursions (or should that be incursions?) into visual art – the era of the manifesto. 7 artists and writers will present newly devised manifestos for a contemporary art world from 1pm.

Manifesoists include: Frances Barrett, Benjamin Forster, Mish Gregor, Astrid Lorange, Maria White, and Watts & Gregory.

The afternoon will close with a roundtable discussion on potential futures for writing and art. We will be inviting key voices in Sydney’s art writing community and members of the audience to contribute to this discussion. Learning Juice (Mountain Goat) will be available.
