Trips is an exhibition of visual spaces that fall somewhere between real and imagined.
The works consider how found material can interact with personal experience, memory and imagination, and seek out the potential that comes from combining the known with the unknown.
Drawing inspiration from the abundance of information and imagery available today, the works are directed and re-directed by disparate images and elements. In tune with this, deliberate and subconscious decision making is set against processes that prompt moments of arbitrary and unpredictable interventions.
Playing with photography’s inherent sense of factuality and the communicative nature of text, the works stitch together time, place, and function. Further driven by material explorations, elements cooperate and collide, and environments are both structured and obliterated in moments of pattern and texture.
The works in Trips present oscillations between tangible reality and imagined possibilities. They can be viewed as a synthesis of distorted memories, playful meanderings, flashes of lucidity, and unidentified yearning.
