Ebony Wightman
Ebony Wightman is a Western Sydney-based visual artist, creative leader, and Disability advocate living and working on Dharug Country. Her multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, painting, and ceramics, exploring the immersive power of created environments. Ebony has exhibited at various galleries, including most recently the Maker Space commission Level 5 at Blacktown Arts.
Through her work, Ebony shares her lived experience as an autistic person with complex health needs, chronic illness, and physical Disability, amplifying the intersectional rights and identities of d/Deaf and Disabled communities while addressing resilience, identity, and access.
As a creative leader, Ebony collaborates with governments and organisations and provides consultancy on inclusive practices. She contributes to policy development, including her roles in the co-design working group for the National Arts and Disability Plan and Blacktown City Council’s Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee.
Recognised for her transformative vision, Ebony was selected for Creative Australia’s 2024 Leadership Cohort and the Evolve Leadership Residency Program, reflecting her commitment to fostering equity and access in the arts and driving change for marginalised communities.
Ebony is a co-founder and Chairperson of We Are Studios, a 100% disability-led studio for Western Sydney artists with Disability.
