Mel Booth is an emerging artist living and working on Gadigal Land (Sydney, Australia). She is interested in the in-between: the beings and objects that don’t fit neatly into Western classification systems. Booth uses her practice to interrogate systems used to identify and categorise, such as scientific classification, gender, politics, nationhood, and how these systems affect her perspectives and relationships with her surrounding environment. Multidisciplinary and intuitive, her practice combines materials and methods in non-traditional and fluid ways, reflecting her explorations of self and perceived boundaries.
Booth graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (First Class Honours), and the The Art Scene Director’s Award for Print Media in 2018. Booth has since exhibited in Australia, America and the UK. Recently Mel Booth was selected as a finalist in the Fishers Ghost Award prize and exhibited her second solo show, at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf.
