beingbaker (they/them) is an anti-disciplinary disabled artist based in Whadjuk Noongar Boodja. Their practice is primarily informed by their identity from the themes they explore to the mediums they use. The way Baker utilises mediums in creating is limitless and adaptive to their ability at the time of creating, this fluidity allows for a dynamic exploration of self. Often using humorous tone to navigate serious topics, reclaiming kitsch or “bad” aesthetics to challenge the elitist undertones expected in art and also just to have fun. Baker has made work in the realm of sculpture, performance, video, illustration and beyond. Rejecting the confines of disciplines, Baker instead opts for exploration within the work they made without self imposed barriers (as life has too many barriers built into it already).
