Jingwei is a Chinese-born, Australian-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans installation, performance, drawing, sculpture and video art. Drawing on both Eastern and Western traditions, her work navigates cultural hybridity, memory, and transformation. Beginning her artistic journey with traditional Chinese charcoal powder portrait drawing, she has since expanded her practice to incorporate contemporary conceptual approaches influenced by my studies in Germany and Australia. she considers art as her fourth language and her ultimate home, following formative years in China, England, and Germany, now settled in Australia. her work reflects this transnational perspective, merging diverse artistic methodologies with deeply personal and philosophical inquiries.
She has exhibited actively since graduating from Adelaide Central School of Art (2021) with recent solo presentations including PUNCH (Central Gallery, 2025), Shadows of Time (Aptos Cruz Gallery, 2024), Pouring Tea Until It Is All Evaporated (Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, 2023), and Life Maps (Centre for Creative Health, 2022). Her work has been featured in significant group exhibitions and Sullivan+ Strumpf Gallery. In addition to her exhibition practice, she is also an active performance artist, exploring endurance, ritual, and interactivity. She performed at the Adelaide Contemporary Experimental Gallery, Adelaide Festival Centre, Performance Space, and Adhocracy, with durational works that examine presence and transformation. She is participated residencies of Nexus Arts and the Lindy Lee Art Studio and recently rewarded a short residency by Adelaide Contemporary Experimentation Gallery in partnership with Firstdraft Gallery. She is selected as as part of the Adelaide Film Festival/Samstag EXPAND Lab. Her works have been published in Journal of Australian Studies, Art Collectors Magazine, SBS Chinese, and Indaily.
