Kuweni Dias Mendis

Kuweni Dias Mendis is a Sri Lankan-born, Australian-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans movement, sound, film, installation, mark-making, and sculptural ritual objects. Through immersive and participatory works, she cultivates ecologies of relationship between body, land, memory, community, and the more-than-human world.

Her practice investigates ritual as a relational practice through which these relationships are cultivated and belonging becomes an embodied experience rather than an abstract idea. Through contemporary art, she preserves, honours, transmits, reimagines, and reclaims living, vanishing, and lost intangible cultural heritage.

As a migrant woman of colour living and working on unceded lands, she works with communities to amplify marginalised voices while creating spaces for collective remembrance, reciprocity, and regeneration.

She is currently undertaking a practice-led MPhil at Griffith University, where her research investigates ritual as a relational practice through Sri Lankan knowledge systems and contemporary art.

Her solo projects have been commissioned by Outer Space (Running Rivers: People of Place, 2024), BEMAC (Reverberations, 2024), Good Life X EUNIC Sri Lanka (Temple, 2024), Logan Art Gallery (Riverscope, 2025), and The Condensery (Pulse of Place, 2026). She has also undertaken a collaborative commission with Metro Arts alongside Grant X Wilks (Insight, 2026). She is a finalist in the 2026 Churchie Emerging Art Prize. Her collaboration with Grant X Wilks received the 2025 Brisbane Portrait Prize Packers’ Prize and the Metro Arts Experimental Prize.
