Benita Laylim

Benita Laylim is a multidisciplinary artist and art installer based on unceded Gadigal Country. She works primarily in ceramics with a practice grounded in slow, intentional making and ecocentric principles. Benita is also employed as an install/exhibitions technician across several major Sydney institutions, including at Chau Chak Wing, AGNSW, and UTS Galleries. Typically her artwork is site-responsive, drawing from research into history, ecology and culture, but increasingly aspects of labour—the oft-unseen physical and emotional work embedded within artistic and institutional practices—are emerging as points of inquiry. Benita has exhibited locally and internationally, including at Tiles Lewisham, Hidden in Rookwood, Gaffa Gallery, and Derrumbe, Bogota. She is a current MFA candidate at UNSW School of Art and Design, expanding her practice through ongoing research.
