dan schulz

dan schulz is a multidisciplinary activist, academic, and artist based on Wilyakali Country in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Working at the intersection of media, academia and art, their work brings together various fields of research and praxis to explore how power relations shape ecological and human systems. dan is a radio producer on the community radio network, co-hosting Water Watch Radio, a weekly radio program about Australian waterways and a PhD candidate at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, as well as a member of the Water Justice Hub.

From the standpoint of ‘shadow places’—communities like Broken Hill, Menindee, and Wilcannia that are often sacrificed to generate wealth for others— dan’s practice examines unfolding forms of colonisation and the consequences of ecological violence, as well as the way grassroots movements resist these processes.

Working across multiple disciplines - media, academic publication, direct action, film and photography, dan’s work aims to give voice to the experiences of people occupying sacrifice zones and contributes to ongoing discourse about the Australian corporatocracy.
