Henry Walker's intuitive performances of abstract painting and making in an art space, studio, public or surfing context are commonly documented and displayed by hijacking methods of presentation from surf culture. Surfing action and experimental painting are common mediums that open his practice to a unique platform of exploration and many new exciting contexts and communities. Henry's practice is further becoming a medium for various levels of exchange aiming to activate more open dialogs in social and political issues through a wide range of collaborative processes and live art events.
From May 2013 to January 2014 Henry did a lap of the country in a Toyota Hiace Van, Henrys Mobile Studio. An underlying premise of the journey was to think about the journey as a nine-month performance and a medium for the exploration of many new social and geographic landscapes. Henry Jock Walker studied at the Art School of South Australia 2006- 2008, partly studying abroad in San Diego, California. Henry successfully completed his honours in 2011 at the Victorian College of Art, Melbourne. Henry has been prolifically performing and exhibiting in Artist Run Spaces in Adelaide and interstate, including a solo shows at Sawtooth ARI, Constance, Penny Contemporary Tasmania, Witch Meat ARI Brisbane, TCB art inc, Rearview Gallery and West Space as part of the Next Wave Festival Melbourne, Felt Space, Fontanelle and Australian Experimental Art Foundation (Odradekaeaf) Adelaide, and Floro c anto Gallery, San Diego. Henry is a founding co-director of the mobile ARI tarpspace. Henry's Mobile Studio was a nine month performance traveling around the nation in 2013.
