Jacqui Shelton

Jacqui Shelton was born on Barada Barna land, central Queensland, and currently live sand works in Narrm Melbourne. She makes work that explores the complications of performance and presence, and how voice, language, and image can collaborate or undermine one another. Shelton is especially interested in how embodied knowledge can be made public and activated to reveal a complex politics of living-together, and the tensions this makes visible. Her recent work investigates language and voice as self-determining gestures and seeks to unsettle white settler positions, through work with Irish-language communities in Australia, working with colonised languages in a settler-state to propose a poetics of multiplicity.
