Maike Hemmers works with the affective relation between bodies and inner spaces such as in subject-object relations and feminist architecture. Inner spaces are inside us – mental, emotional, spiritual, but they are also the space outside of us that we closely and often privately inhabit such as the domestic. The main question in Hemmers’ work is how a queer and soft resistance can happen in different types of inner environments. In her work methodologies of inner reflection such as writing, reading, and drawing are to invite an affective shift in a structured environment.
