Natalya Hughes is an Australian artist based in Sydney. She works mainly in painting, digital media and installation. Her work is consistently concerned with maligned decorative and ornamental traditions and their association with the feminine, the body and excess. Her work has been exhibited in numerous group shows including Contemporary Australia: Women at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane and most recently An Imprecise Science at Artspace, Sydney. Recent solo exhibitions include: Looking Thrice at Milani Gallery, Brisbane; Bachelor Pad’s at Alaska Projects, Sydney; and Looking Full at Beam, Melbourne. Natalya completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane in 2001 and a PhD in Art Theory at the College of Fine Art (UNSW) in 2009. She is represented by Milani Gallery, Brisbane and currently teaches in Photography and Situated Media at UTS, Sydney.
