Jeremy Swales

@jeremy_swales

Jeremy Swales is a Sydney-based emerging artist living with intellectual disability and multiple sclerosis. With over two decades of dedicated practice, Jeremy has developed a distinct and vibrant style across a variety of mediums, including pen, ink, painting, and weaving—where he has become particularly accomplished.

Predominantly a landscape artist, Jeremy reimagines his local surroundings, especially his home city of Hornsby, through a highly decorative and expressive lens. His bold use of pattern layered textures, and imaginative storytelling has drawn comparisons to artists such as Grayson Perry. Each piece is built up through meticulous layers of pattern work, creating rich narratives that invite viewers into his unique inner world.

Jeremy’s work has been recognised through multiple accolades, including being named a finalist for both the Burwood Art Prize and the Gosford Art Prize. His practice is a celebration of colour, creativity, and connection to place—infused with the joyful spirit of his imaginative mind and the resilience of his personal journey.
