Immaterially Yours...
Immaterial Labour is the process through which ideas, culture and taste come to hold social value. Immaterially Yours…creates an environment that recognises the care, attention and effort that underscores the production of art. This evening at Firstdraft is a celebration of the sinuous magic that brings together artworks and focuses on the relationship that live performance weaves between artist, performer and audience.
As we enter the third enormous week of Art Month Immaterially Yours…is a palate cleanser and a chance to seek support, sustenance and joy through a series of generous offerings. Be transported by Jodie Whalen’s transformation of the Firstdraft water closets into sensory sunsets with light, scent and installation, and watch James Nguyen’s poignant video installation On the Border of Things recounting his uncle’s experiences as a seasonal worker. Alyx Dennison and Bonnie Stewart will set hearts-racing with a powerful percussive duet, while Eugene Choi will restage A Brace for Support a meditation on the complex constellation of relations between bodies, objects, artist and audience.
DJs Marcus Whale and Chloe CandleLyte on the early shift, followed by DJ Sovereign Trax will provide a sparkling soundtrack, March Dance’s Emma Harrison will present a choreographic solo, Su Yu Hsin’s Garden Esc will interrogate belonging in landscape and snacks will be provided by Parliament on King a hospitality social enterprise providing training, community and employment for asylum seekers and refugees.
We acknowledge the Gadigal people as the traditional custodians of of the land we work on and this place we now call Sydney. We pay respect to all First Peoples Elders (past, present and emerging) and recognise their strength, wisdom and creativity.
