The world is in the midst of a pan-Pacific renaissance. We’re seeing evidence of Māori and other Pasifika people reforging ancient alliances. Māori and Pacific peoples share not just a whakapapa (genealogy) but also a common political situation — we are both at the bottom of the white supremacist, socio-economic hierarchies that we live in. Let us awaken to the links and recognise that the only way to effectively resist colonisation is to look at the relationships it has tried to destroy and suppress. PRECOG reconnect the threads of whakapapa that colonisation has broken, and unites us all in celebration to tackle the big social and ecological challenges of our time.

Biography

Matariki (fka DJ Sezzo) is a proud Ngāpuhi woman, DJ, writer and curator. She is interested in what it is to be modern Māori, and the magic of the club. In 2018 she created the experimental art club night Precog, and in 2019 founded the Māori-Australian art collective Ngāti Kangaru. Kōtare has played at Palais de Tokyo Galerie (Paris, Fr), Dark Mofo, MONA FOMA, Next Wave Festival, GoMA, Mardi Gras, MCA, IMA, Firstdraft, Falls Festival, and has supported the likes of Moor Mother & Black Quantum Futurism, Klein, Le1f, Cher, Coolio and Charli XCX (to name a few!). Matariki lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne.
