Girls Girls Girls explores the result of an unlikely conjunction: strip club décor and abstract geometric painting. In extension of a broader practice that mobilises maligned decorative and ornamental traditions, Girls Girls Girls draws together a now familiar art historical tradition with sexuality and the body. Incorporating abstract and ornamental paintings, nightclub lighting, decorative materials and latex cast architectural elements the work draws attention to the extent to which the body and formal concerns have been consistently posed as incongruous. In a space replete with ornament, pattern, décor and sleaze Girls Girls Girls seeks to disrupt the binaries that underlie the way we think about art and it’s appropriacy.
