Bella Deary is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based visual artist and PhD candidate at QUT whose art practice investigates eco-centrism, interspecies entanglement, kinship, and symbiosis in the Anthropocene era. Bella’s PhD research has reflected on art-science collaborations via a practice-led collaboration with a University of Queensland marine ecological research team to interpret coral research via immersive installations. Deary primarily works with installation and video art, often combining sculpture, video projection and sound.

Bella has exhibited widely throughout Australia and Europe, notably in exhibitions such as Here and Now: Gold Coast Triennial (HOTA, 2024); SWELL Sculpture Festival (Gold Coast, 2023); and Swelter (Caboolture Regional Art Gallery, 2022). Bella was the recipient of an Australian Government RTP Scholarship (2021-2025); the 2024 Dorothy Birt Memorial Scholarship; and the 2021 Hilde Chenhall Memorial Scholarship. Upon completing a 2023 residency in Fiskars Village, Finland, she was selected to participate in the 2024 Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale, and recently completed a residency at Crexida Anima Fluo in Bologna, where she exhibited collaboratively in the Scena Natura festival. Bella is also a codirector of Nextdoor ARI, an artist-run initiative supporting emerging artists in South-EastQueensland.
