Derek Sargent is a sculpture and installation artist based in Adelaide. His work is concerned with the development of identity and sexuality in the formative years of adolescence. He explores the extent to which heteronormative culture enforces and oppresses imagery and thought. In 2013 he graduated from the South Australia School of Art with first class Honours, where he was also awarded the Chancellor’s Letters of Commendation three times. He is a co-director at the artist run initiative FELTspace and is also an education officer at the SASA gallery.
