Dr Virginia Keft
Muruwari woman, Dr Virginia Keft, is a multi-award-winning artist and scholar living and working on Dharawal Country (Wollongong, NSW). Her interdisciplinary practice spans weaving and textiles, sculpture, painting, and installation, and explores themes of nature, home, and cultural connection. Using fibre, timber, and natural materials, she weaves stories of Country and truth-telling through a First Nations lens.
Virginia’s work is held in public and private collections across Australia and internationally. In 2025, she was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), and exhibited alongside 25 Australian artists in a major contemporary art exhibition in Munich, Germany. She holds a Doctorate (PhD – Medalist) from the University of Wollongong, along with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Distinction) and a Bachelor of Arts (Class 1 Honours).
Virginia is also the Producer of bangawarra Art Yarns: for older and Elder mob at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia.
