Matt Elliott
@mattelliott80
Matt Elliott is an abstract landscape artist who has a fascination with dream states, creating lucid ‘mindscapes’ with a range of media that draw inspiration from the natural environment and interpreted through his mind and memory. As an artist, Matt loves to explore the Australian native landscape and waterways, sensitively rendering these vistas in his highly gestural paintings and drawings.
In recent years, Matt has enjoyed creating his art at various locations around Sydney and regional NSW, creating en plein air to document his visceral response to the landscape, before completing the artworks back in the studio. Matt has undertaken art residencies at Bundanon (2022 - Accessible Arts), Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf (2024 - Little Umbrella Collective) and currently holds an artist studio at Curl Curl Creative Space (2024-2025 - Northern Beaches Council).
Matt has actively collaborated with fellow artists such as Luke Abdallah (Studio ARTES/Little Umbrella Collective) over a number of projects over a number of years as well as recent collaborations with esteemed Hawkesbury River artist David Collins (Defiance Gallery) as part of his most recent solo exhibition. Matt Elliott has been an active artist at Studio ARTES Northside from its inception 25 years ago. He is an original member of the Little Umbrella Collective (2024 onwards).
Matt Elliott lives with Cerebral Palsy, making his art from his powered wheelchair. He is determined to never let his disability hinder what he wants to do with his life. Over the past 7 years he has had consistent support from Art Facilitator Zachariah Fenn (Studio ARTES/Little Umbrella Collective).
