Rowan Yeomans

@rowan_yeomans

Rowan Yeomans is a musician, sound designer and multidisciplinary artist working on Wangal Land. Their work explores trans and neurodiverse modes of being, and emphasises play, sensory pleasure and being a bit silly. They are drawn to mediums that give your brain something to chew on, be it the gurgle of an oscillating synth drone, the flicker of hand drawn rotoscope animation or the silky-smooth feeling of embroidery thread through your fingertips. For Yeomans,art is a tool to document the world as it is and imagine how it could be, as such their work is equally populated by mundane daily rituals and anxieties, and whimsical creatures like frogs in cowboy boots singing love-songs to the moon.

Yeomans graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (BA Screen Production) in 2018 with an interest in composition, sound design, editing and animation. Since 2018 they have worked professionally as a sound designer and composer for film, television and theatre. They have also worked as an artistic facilitator since 2017 working collaboratively with children, refugees and people with disability and currently work as the Visual Arts Coordinator at Studio ARTES. Through working as a facilitator, Rowan came to truly appreciate the magic art making holds and its ability to conjure new realities into existence. To be able to create is a gift that is free to everyone and Yeomans wants to share that with everyone they collaborate with
