Oliver Fontany

Oliver Fontany is a neurodiverse artist living and working in Sydney, Australia. Developing his skills through pen and ink, Oliver has expanded his artistic repertoire to include painting, collage, and installation.

Fontany’s work is characterised by his distinctive linear style: using a heavy hand, he carves bold, expressive lines into his paintings and drawings. In contrast to the rigidity of his line work, his application of colour is fluid and vibrant, often offsetting the darker tones with luminous hues. This dynamic tension between structure and spontaneity forms a signature element of his practice.

Predominantly drawing on expansive landscapes and deeply autobiographical themes, Fontany’s art is infused with moments of personal joy and memory—ranging from the importance of family and friends to the sensory rituals of daily life, such as the sights, sounds, and experiences tied to favourite television shows or familiar walks.

Fontany supports his creative process through the use of photographic references, capturing moments that later transform into layered visual narratives within his work.

His artworks have been exhibited widely in group exhibitions and prizes throughout New South Wales and are held in private collections across Australia. In 2021, Fontany was awarded the Macability Award through the Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize, the People’s Choice Award through the Calleen Art Award, and placed first in the Connect, Collaborate, Celebrate exhibition hosted by Willoughby City Council.

In 2024, Fontany was selected as an Artist in Residence with Little Umbrella Collective at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf and was named a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize.
