VHS tapes have been a constant in Oliver Fontany’s life, present both at home and in the studio. They are watched, meticulously stacked, and often become the focus of his practice.

In the digital age, VHS tapes have grown increasingly scarce. Their bulk and fragility mean they cannot last forever. This work captures that change, painting each spine as both archive and object.

As VHS becomes harder to source, Oliver begins a new chapter. DVD Stack 1 marks his first move into DVD, continuing his process of collecting, cataloguing, and painting.

DVD STACK 1 was a finalist in Campbelltown Art Gallery’s Fischers Ghost Art Award.
