This artwork was created on location as part of the Little Umbrella Collective studio residency at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf in 2024. ‘In the garden on the harbour’ is a visceral and emotive response to the natural beauty of the landscape of the Blackburn Gardens with its expansive tree canopy, harbour glimpses and landscaped gardens. Matt has built up layers of gestural mark-making with charcoal, acrylic with dye pigments and oil stick to create a dream-like scene that captures the sensations of being immersed in the beauty of nature.
